Anyone tried AI tools for eye contact?

Main Post:

Hey everyone,

I need to record a video where I’m reading something, but I don’t have a teleprompter, so I’m looking for an AI solution to help fix my eye contact in post-production.

I came across Veed ai which seems to have a tool for correcting eye contact, but I’m wondering if anyone here has tried it (or any similar tools). How well does it work? Does it look natural, or is it obvious that it’s AI-generated?

Any advice or experiences would be super helpful! Thanks in advance.

Top Comment: If you have a Nvidia gpu, the app GeForce broadcast has a filter to make your eyes look straight to the camera.

How can I have a video chat without jacked up eye contact?

Main Post:

I want to have a call in option for my video podcast but I can't have a conversation in earnest without some kind of normal eye contact. I can think of only two options.

Obstruct a large display with a small camera. Like a big screen and a portable webcam. This seems clunky and still distracting. Or

Create some convoluted teleprompter. Reflect a display off of beamsplitter glass and record from behind. I don't even know if that would work and it would be expensive.

Are there any better solutions?

Top Comment: The teleprompter glass setup is your best bet, but you’ll need your guests to set them up for themselves, so it probably won’t work, unless everyone that calls in is either an experienced broadcast/AV technician, or friends with an experienced broadcast/AV technician. Short answer: there’s really no simple way to do it.

Has LTT ever made a video about Monitor Eye Strain?

Main Post:

I have an issue where I get eye strain after a few hours of using a display. I already take regular breaks, but it still comes up. I could live with this, except literally every single one of my skillsets require a computer for a Full Time Job. I already have Blue Light glasses, so I was looking into buying the best monitor in reducing eye strain. I can't think of many people who have as many Monitors as Linus Media Group, so I wanted to know if they have ever made a recommendation. RTINGS has not made an eye strain specific review, so I wanted to know if I missed something. Buying monitors is expensive, so I don't want to have to lose hundreds of dollars to get the wrong one, and don't want to buy specialty $1000+ EInk Monitors unless I have to. Thanks for any help, you all are a great community.

Top Comment: have you tried adjusting your brightness/colors? i’ve found by bumping the blues down (think apple’s true tone) and keeping brightness lower i reduce my eye strain quite a bit.

Video Games Could Correct Lazy Eye

Main Post: Video Games Could Correct Lazy Eye

Top Comment: Incidentally, I had a lazy eye when I was a child and my mother always patched me for a couple hours a day and had me play video games. It corrected itself and I no longer needed glasses by the age of 11. My optometrist was incredibly surprised. edit: I would like to point out that I had strabismus (ocular muscle weakness) that led to a lazy eye and not amblyopia, which is referenced in this article. I was just saying this off-handedly and didn't expect to get so much attention. My apologies, everyone.

Nintendo Switch OLED Eye Strain & Screen Flicker (Video)

Main Post:

Some people are reporting eye strain and headaches after using the new Nintendo Switch OLED model.

I noticed slight flickering in early reviews last week so I ran some tests when I opened mine and it looks like the OLED model does indeed flicker to reduce brightness.

If you're sensitive to flicker (Pulse Width Modulation - PWM) or are experiencing eye strain it might be better to stick with the OG Switch or Lite. It also still flickers at 100% brightness which is unfortunate.

Some users were blaming vivid colors for the eye strain with no mention of screen flickering. I'm no expert, does anyone know if that plays a role too?

Top Comment: That's a no go for me, then. I have issues with the pulsing from fluorescents.
